Goodbye Windows 8, Hello Windows 10!

Let’s face it, for all Windows users out there – who are most of us – know the disaster that is Windows 8; Not only did they remove our beloved Start Menu and transform it into a tablet-optimized Start screen which is really difficult to navigate with a mouse and keyboard, but most apps came in two modes; tablet mode and desktop mode, honestly, it just got way too confusing and people cursed the day they decided to switch to Windows 8 on their PCs and laptops.

Microsoft gave the world a sneak preview of their new operating system, Windows 10, at an intimate press conference in San Francisco last Tuesday.

Here are some of the features Windows 10 will offer us:

  • Windows 10 will allow all apps to work on desktop, even the ones designed for touch
  • Windows 8 apps will be able to run next to old Windows 7 apps.
  • Most importantly, our beloved Start Menu will return to its natural place; it will be similar to what we’re used to seeing in Windows 7 but when opened will show the tile display that are available in Windows 8 in the panel.
  • Continuum; a feature that will allow for users to adjust interface according to what they’re using, whether it’s a tablet or PC or a tablet with a keyboard snapped in, they will be asked if they want to enter tablet mode which is optimized for touch and is kind of similar to the start screen on Windows 8.

We just wanted to reassure everyone that our beloved Start Menu is returning and that is the most important thing; even though it was feared that Windows 10 has nothing new to offer, on the contrary, it has returned to its simplicity which was what we loved about Windows in the first place.
