UI Web Design Trends in 2014

It’s very important as a web designer and developer or just a mere mortal living in the modern world that you’re aware of what sort of designs and features are trending in 2014.

Here’s a list of what’s hot and new in the world of web.

1)      SVG Animation:

For the non-geeks, Scalable Vector Graphics or SVGs are an XML-based vector image format; it supports two dimensional graphics which support animation and interactivity.

It’s been around for a while, but has started to receive attention recently.

2)      Fixed Navigation:

Fixed navigation

Fixed Navigation is when users scroll down in a website with fixed elements, and those elements stay in their place while the rest of the content moves.

This way everything is more accessible and makes your experience with the website more user-friendly.

3)      One- Page Scrolling:

One-page scrolling

Another design trend in 2014 is one-page scrolling; one-page scrolling allows the user to find everything that needs to be found in one page.

Long scrolling is the more popular name and it means viewing all your website pages in one single page

4)      Video Content:

Video content

A lot of web creators have moved to video usage on their websites, also because people have become so sick of reading so much content to understand what the purpose of the website is; people lost interest in reading and want entertainment and are craving something new.

5)      Responsive Web Design:

Responsive web design is creating the optimal viewing experience for a number of devices including mobile phones and regular computer screens.

It allows users to do less scrolling and zooming and makes reading and navigating through the website much easier.

6)      Flat UI Design:

Flat ui

Flat design means simplicity in every single way; smooth colors, no drop shadows, no gradients or textures. Apple first introduced it in its sleek new software, iOS 7 and soon after many were attracted to the sleek and clean look of the flat design.

7)      Minimalism:

Minimalism

With the world of web leaning more towards flat design, they also aspire for minimalism, which means that everything presented is straightforward and without clutter and the reason is that focus is meant to be on the content that the web designer is trying to convey to the user, nothing more and nothing less.

8)      Parallax:

Parallax is a displacement or difference in the apparent position of an object viewed along two different lines of sight, and is measured by the angle or semi-angle of inclination between those two lines.

Some might think this falls under the one-page scrolling headline, but we do believe that there are plenty of websites that prefer single parallax images to capture the attention only one time. Parallax has been evolving, and will continue to do so in 2014.
